Kent Poon Audio Blog – Reborn.
Hello everyone, I want to share my journey with sound. If you’re new here, my name is Kent Poon, and this is my blog about all things related to “high-quality sound.” My daily life revolves around sound topics, technical development, and business in the professional and high-end audio markets. The main audience for this blog likely includes colleagues in the field, customers who have purchased our products, and audiophiles interested in high-quality sound—myself included. Writing these reflections helps me clarify my thoughts and set a clear direction for the future.
This blog started in 2007, well before I launched my distribution company. Since then, many changes have occurred. As media and information flow accelerate rapidly, we no longer wait for human responses; instead, we depend on AI to produce answers from extensive data. While this shift aims to boost our efficiency and encourage ongoing learning and innovation, it may not benefit humans, particularly their senses, with sound remaining a key element.
Before we begin, I’d like to share a bit about myself and the exciting projects I’m involved in. I’m enthusiastic about connecting with passionate individuals, curious minds, and valued customers!
I am a co-founder and operator of “Asia Weiss Limited” (www.asiaweiss.com), the Swiss Weiss Engineering (weiss.ch) sister company, and the Asia head office.
Additionally, I co-founded and manage Square Wave Limited (www.squarewaveltd.com), a multi-brand distribution and retail company. We manage 15 active brands from our main office in Hong Kong, with branches in Taipei, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Nagoya. When we launched Square Wave in 2010, our goal was to create a perfect digital audio representation, an ideal “square wave.” Today, we focus on turntables, vinyl, and analogue audio brands and products, and we’re seeking a new identity.
Before my involvement with these companies, I was perhaps better known for my high-quality audio productions. Here are a few of my projects, including the new record label Jazz World (www.jazzworldrecords.com), which I co-founded with Hong Kong’s renowned producer and jazz event organiser Clarence Chang during the Covid pandemic.
I was appointed Montreux Jazz Festival China’s CTO (A new MJF division) in 2021.
Over the past six years, I have collaborated with leading pioneers to launch a new international startup focused on ultra-high-quality streaming. More importantly, this venture aims to empower content creators, especially musicians, by returning control and commerce to them. This represents a future-oriented story. You might be curious about why I hold various positions and run multiple businesses. This blog centers on the elements shaping my audio lifestyle. There are additional endeavors as well, which I will share in another post.
