Ola Björling excellent blog has an interview with Daniel Weiss around Feb, 2011. The english version is just launched and it shares a lot of thought regarding Weiss Engineering product design philosophy and Daniel’s perspective in audio. You can get quite deep into his words.
My name was mentioned on posting excellent Samuel Groner Op-Amp paper. There is a very interesting case that here in Asia region audiophiles see things differently. Almost all audiophiles in our world are comparing different pricing DACs and have their own kind of “best” one. But from the interview you can see Daniel has no interest (or actually no time – I’m writing this blog in Nagoya, Japan while Daniel is in London for AES. Few days later we will meet in Munich.) and he does not compare his designs with what other manufacturer offerings. Weiss’s product is started by some ideas and internal researches to reach goals.
“Do you look at competitors products at all or do you keep to your own research?
I don’t look at them much actually. The reason is that if you conceive a new product and you look at a competitor, you get into the competitors way of thinking. You limit your thinking, kind of. It’s better to start with a clean slate.”
