錄音技術簡介

一個發燒級錄音,由錄音器材、收錄方法到製作過程也跟流行曲製作有很大的分別。今次整個錄音均採用 Live Recording 的方法錄製,即是一Take過現場收錄,全部樂手於同一空間內作同步演奏。每首歌曲因應樂器的編排,以一對 B&K Omni 無指向性咪高峰作單點式收錄,這方法於古典及舊式爵士樂錄音常用作收錄樂器的細節,並用少量Spot Mic作配合。製作發燒錄音當然要採用最高質素的器材。由咪高峰至咪高峰放大器,再直入數位編碼器 (ADC) 均以 24Bit / 192kHz 收錄,音頻完全不經錄音Console。SSL-9000 是用作鑑聽Monitor Mix之用。

HQCD是什麼?

HQCD(Hi Quality CD), 是音效極度接近母帶音源的光碟。HQCD採用比普通CD質量更高, 常用於液晶體屏幕的聚碳酸酯(Polycarbonate) 作為光碟的基本製作物料; 反射膜則由CD沿用多年的鋁質轉換成更具耐久性、耐熱性、耐光性的特殊合金。兩種物料互相配合令HQCD之音色更纖細、解像度、透明感及現場感更高。無需更換式添加器材,以閣下現有的音響組合便能體驗到HQCD的超凡音效。

      Thanks Hercules, it shows that post production does make a different even we are recorded with single point (B&K) and supportive mics. Hopefully people will like this kind of purist approach, but I do afraid it is not popular in pop style. People are too used to compression and everything smashes together.

    Okay, now you found out something new….Yes indeed, that is why you will soon see Audiophile Jazz Prologue III HQCD version. I am leaving Hong Kong on Saturday (Oct 3th) to Tokyo for the 2 HiFi shows, and also visit HQCD center to prepare the AJP-III HQCD.

    I aim to produce a lower price HQCD AJP-III (single disc) for wider range audience. Thanks for pointing it out, to show our Japan HQCD pressing is not just gimmick. It has very solid reasons that we used this replication, even it is many times more expansive than regular CD cost.

    Moreover, your test cannot show that we actually did have different versions, with different composition of the metal alloy/plastic in order to produce different sounding. I will share more after the Tokyo trip and photos of the plant.

    I did some research before, SHM-CD only use high transparency Polycarbonate but still using traditional Al reflective layer, so the SHM advantage is not huge, when I got Denon Classics Remaster HQCD, the sound is more lively and vivid, something really give significant improvement on Redbook, HQCD is the one, because of same Hi-Trans Polycarbonate and together with alloy reflective layer.

    Some time before you releases AJP3. you said you may remaster AJP1 and AJP2 and selling in Hi-Res file too. I hope you can consider and remaster AJP1 (my all time favorite in the series) in HQCD too.

    Indeed, the first thing to do is AJP3 HQCD version since there is no extra engineering works. Just repress the CD layer in HQCD format, redesign the packaging.

    Then next AJP1 & AJP2 remastering – 2 disc version (HQCD + HI-Res AIFFs). This related to licensing and ownership of these 2 recordings.
    Then next AJP4 – A brand new recording with different vocalist.

    I just bought this album, the deluxe version from my favourite hifi shop (in Singapore). Very good recording I must say. But the limited edition CD single disc was packed with the data side up and it got mulitple scratches on the surface, possibly caused by rubbing with that small piece paper on how to download the free track from Hifitrack.com. Anyone has the same problem with your CD single?

    After listening to the downloaded 24/96 version of 愛如潮水, just can’t go back to CD, I don’t care if it is HQ, SHM, XRCD, LPCD or whatever, please provide 24/192 downloadable files, it is the only way to go, I don’t mind paying more…
